Tiling with large tiles

Levelling the substrate

Before the tiles are installed, the substrate is checked. Large tiles require an absolutely level substrate. The substrate to be coated is primed with a primer to a thickness of 0-10 mm before levelling. Adjustments of more than 10 mm are made with a levelling compound.

Cleaning the tile

The back surface of the tile may often have white powder on it, which has been created during the tile manufacturing process. This powder must be removed before fixing.

Tiling of large tiles

Large tiles are fixed with double adhesive to ensure the best possible adhesion. The mortar is applied normally to the surface to be tiled using a notched trowel. On the back of the tile, the grout can be applied with a flat trowel or a suitable notched trowel in the same direction as the surface to be tiled.

Correctly applied double bonding ensures a good adhesion of the tile and prevents the formation of air pockets, reducing the risk of damage to the tile.

Modern aids such as suction cup handles and tile wedges make it easier to handle heavy and large tiles and position them correctly.

Hemming

When grouting large tiles, the aim is often to make the grouting as unobtrusive as possible. The choice of joint size is also influenced by technical construction considerations.
